Challenge
The Indian and Northern Affairs development team were utilizing Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports 6i, and recognized that support for Oracle Forms 6i and Oracle Reports 6i was discontinued effective January 31, 2005. Although Oracle continued to offer extended support through January 31, 2008, it came at a cost. I&NA needed to upgrade their applications to Oracle Forms 10g in order to ensure continued operational efficiency, while preserving the existing functionality and capabilities within the applications. Additionally, WordPerfect was being replaced by Microsoft Word as the standard word processor for Indian and Northern Affairs. One of the problems they faced was the requirement to use WordPerfect macros in their applications and the need to replace these macros with Microsoft Word macros. They ultimately turned to CipherSoft Inc. to assist with the project due to CipherSoft’s expertise.
CipherSoft's Solution
CipherSoft Inc. provided the upgrade from Forms 6i to 10g for both the Oracle Forms and Reports, assisted with deployment in a Citrix environment, and migrated the reporting macros from WordPerfect to Microsoft Word. The upgrade and maintenance project for Indian and Northern Affairs leveraged past investments in the core applications and business processes, maintaining current functionality, improvements in speed and reporting capabilities, and was a cost effective solution. In addition, the migration to Oracle’s 10g technology allows Indian and Northern Affairs the ability to leverage their investment in the original application, while taking advantage of the robust capabilities of the 10g environment. This enables the organization to meet the business requirements for the application for future growth.
